Company

The Steps Dance Company is a competitive performance group comprised of students who are passionate about dance and want to take their talent to the next level.  We believe that the Company experience instills values such as team work, responsibility, commitment, and discipline that our students can use outside of the classroom.  Steps offers many companies based upon a dancer’s age, experience, and interest:

Jazz Company

We are proud to offer programs for many levels of dancers.  In our audition process we seek potential and commitment and look to foster growth in these dancers.  We offer a training program for dancers ages 11-14 who are new to the competitive experience.

Performances

While we feel that competition inspires drive, teamwork, and good sportsmanship, we also highly value performance opportunities to give dancers a chance to reach out in their communities.  Members of the Steps Dance Company have performed yearly in events such as:

Kathryn Bender Memorial Showcase Fox Valley Dance Showcase
Dance Chicago Dance.Live at UIC
Naperville Labor Day Parade Dupage Children’s Museum
McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Inaside Youth Summit for the Arts

Conventions & Competitions

We attend competitions and conventions throughout the year in order to gain performance experience and receive feedback.  Conventions consist of two days of workshop classes from master teachers around the country and competition on Friday and Saturday evenings.  At competitions only, we will compete all of our routines solos-production.  We do stay in the Chicagoland area for our regional competitions and conventions, and every other year travel to compete in a National competition.

Solos, Duos, Trios, and Small Groups

We believe that working with students in a close setting is very beneficial.  Teachers may select students for solo, duo, trio, and small group opportunities.  For duos & trios, the directors will group dancers based upon the individual dancers’ strengths and skills.  These opportunities require time outside of regularly scheduled class rehearsals.

Guest Choreography/Master Classes

We encourage students to work with numerous teachers and choreographers to gain exposure to different styles and become diverse dancers.  Our company members have been able to work with guest choreographers such as Gregg Russell, Lizzie Mackenzie, Nikky Paramo, and Cassie Dzienny.
